As a content creator, standing out in a crowded online space can be challenging.
With so much content being produced and shared daily, it can be difficult to capture your audience’s attention and establish yourself as a leader in your field.
I asked 9 business executives, “What is one marketing tip you have for content creators to grow their brand in 2023?”.
So here are the 9 expert marketing tips for content creators.
1) Show Your Authenticity
In an age where social media dominates the online space, authenticity is key.
Consumers are savvier than ever and can spot a bot a mile away.
They prefer to interact with real people, so it’s time to invest in humanizing your brand.
Make a video of yourself talking about your products or services.
Incorporate pictures of your employees into a blog post.
Share a story about your customers’ experiences with your social media profiles.
Digital advertising has made it easy to forget that humans are still the most important part of the equation.
By showing the world you have a pulse, you’ll gain a competitive advantage in the market and build a loyal following that can’t get enough of you.
Matthew Ramirez
CEO of Rephrasely
My Take
Couldn’t agree more with Matthew.
While content creators and influencers already have a personal image attached to their brand, many put on a facade online.
Just be your authentic self.
The audience will appreciate that more.
2) Build an Engaged Community
Community-building can be done through a variety of strategies, such as:
Another important aspect of building a strong brand is to create a consistent visual identity across all platforms and materials.
This includes developing a unique logo, color scheme, and typography, as well as a consistent tone of voice and messaging.
This will help to make your brand more recognizable and memorable.
Sanket Shah
CEO of InVideo
My Take
Community-building is different from growing a following.
You want followers to be passionate about your brand and the topics you talk about while acting as advocates.
As Sanket suggested, find ways to create a platform or space for discussion.
This strategy is used extremely aggressively when NFT creators build their communities on Discord or Twitter.
3) Involve Micro-Influencers
2023 is right around the corner, and content creators are already preparing for what it will take to grow their brands.
One piece of advice that content creators may not have considered is the impact of micro-influencers on their growth.
Micro-influencers are individual influencers with smaller followings who specialize in specific niches or products.
By partnering with micro-influencers, content creators can leverage their existing relationships and followers to expand their reach and promote their brand in a more authentic way.
Aviad Faruz
CEO of FARUZO
My Take
Collaborating with like-minded creators with a smaller but more targeted following will work in your favor.
It will be easier for you to grow and be discovered by similar audiences.
So as Aviad said, don’t sleep on working with micro-influencers.
4) Drive Traffic and Gain Exposure With Crowdsourcing
Crowdsourced content is a great way to get more eyes on your content and give people a reason to care more about what you do.
Using services like Terkel or HARO to get expert quotes from people in your niche adds credibility to your content.
Also, when you publish other people’s work, they now have an incentive to share that content with their own audiences, link to the content, and help you earn free traffic.
Crowdsourcing is one of the most low-effort ways to ensure a steady stream of new content without a significant time or monetary investment.
Don’t be shy about enlisting others to take part in your content.
Many people will be glad to do so because it gives them another platform to share their expertise.
Alli Hill
Founder and Director of Fleurish Freelance
My Take
Crowdsourcing is one thing most content creators WILL NOT do simply because they are lazy or too shy.
But Alli made an excellent point about enlisting the expertise of others through platforms dedicated to this purpose.
In fact that this article was put together using Terkel, though it’s mainly for those running a website.
No matter which channel you use to distribute your content, working with other key opinion leaders will add more value to your audience.
5) Produce Evergreen Content
Focus on creating high-quality, evergreen content that will continue to be relevant and valuable for a long time.
This type of content can drive organic traffic to a website or social media account for months or even years after it is created.
Evergreen content can be repurposed and repackaged in different formats, such as video or podcast, to reach new audiences and increase engagement.
We have four or five videos on our products that we continue to repurpose and reuse every year.
There are tons of opportunities when you can produce evergreen content.
Seth Newman
Director of Sporting Smiles
My Take
I’d like to think of each piece of content as an eternal traffic driver.
This means making them timeless, as Seth said.
There is nothing wrong with capitalizing on trends and receiving attention.
But creating high-quality content that will work for you indefinitely is more efficient.
So make that the core of your strategy.
6) Humanize Your Content
Consumers today place a high value on authenticity, which drives the popularity of user-generated content, live streaming, and influencer marketing.
Customers value the chance to communicate with the people who created it.
Marketers must focus less on one-way corporate messaging and more on sticking to the truth to connect with their target customers.
As a result, profiling employees and senior executives have gained popularity.
With so many channels and format options, creating content that encourages discussion and participation may go a long way.
So, by emphasizing the people behind the brand, brands can move away from becoming faceless digital entities and establish respect and trust.
David Reid
Sales Director of VEM Tooling
My Take
Similar to what Matthew, CEO of Rephrasely, mentioned.
David also highly emphasizes humanizing your content as it’s more relatable for audiences.
Stop trying to hide behind a persona and be your authentic self.
7) Be Inspired by AI, Not Dependent
Artificial intelligence is getting smarter and more human-like, but it’s not human.
It ultimately just digests and re-words the human experience.
For basic writing tasks, it might be tempting to lean on AI content creation to turn around content that is less exciting to write.
But don’t do it.
Instead, ask AI bots for inspiration.
Dig deeper into a topic and see what the bots come up with.
This is a valuable way to unclog your writer’s block or discover an interesting piece of a mundane topic that you, with your human talent, can turn into an interesting piece of content.
Jason Bland
Co-Founder of Custom Legal Marketing
My Take
Everyone seems to be using AI writers or other AI marketing tools these days, especially with the rise of ChatGPT.
Don’t get me wrong, I, too, use these tools to assist me in my writing, but it doesn’t replace me.
I still have to personalize the content and add my expertise to give my audience value.
An artificial intelligence model is trained to produce content based on its fed data.
Next time before publishing any article, run it through an AI content detector to assess its “humanity.”
So as Jason mentioned, use them for inspiration and assistance, not as a replacement.
8) Create Content on Other Platforms
In 2023, one of the best marketing tips I have for content creators is to build relationships with other content creators and create content on their platforms.
By doing this, you will not only be tapping into their existing audience, but you’ll also be introducing yourself and your brand to a new group of potential followers.
You’ll be able to position yourself as a credible expert in your field and gain the trust of their audience, which will help grow your brand.
Additionally, content creators often collaborate on projects together and can introduce you to other opportunities as well.
So, start building relationships and creating content on other platforms to increase your reach!
Mark McShane
Marketing Director of Birmingham First Aid Courses
My Take
While I agree with Mark about creating content with other creators on other platforms.
The conditions should be when:
- You can produce content at scale consistently or,
- You already have a growing audience on those platforms.
I don’t recommend spreading your limited resources over multiple channels initially.
But if you are in the scaling phase with the help of a small team or freelancers, go for it.
9) Collaborate, Collaborate, Collaborate
2023 is going to be a big year for content creators.
It’s the perfect time to think about how you can grow your brand and reach a wider audience.
I have one non-generic marketing tip I think will help you get ahead of the competition: collaborate with other content creators.
Collaborations are an excellent way to increase your visibility, especially on social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube.
You can team up with another creator who has a similar aesthetic or target audience as yours and create something together that both of you can promote across each other’s channels.
It could be anything from an Instagram Live or creating a video series where both of you showcase different aspects of your respective brands.
Not only does this give your followers more engaging content, but also introduces them to new perspectives through someone else in the same industry as yourself!
Jamie Irwin
Head of Marketing of Privasee
My Take
We can all agree with Jamie that collaborations are the way to go in the creator economy.
You can’t build your content empire alone.
Besides that is going to be a very lonely journey.
It’s the same as running any business.
You will need to make connections with people in your industry to grow.
To Sum Up
Standing out as a content creator with marketing in 2023 requires a strategic approach.
Who better to take advice from than business executives who run huge corporations?
Building a successful content creation career is like running your startup.
Shift your mindset by implementing these marketing strategies, and you’ll be well on your way to growing your brand in 2023.
